2023 MAZDA CX-50 vs 2024 MAZDA CX-90
Serving Cleveland, OH
In 2023, the Mazda crossover SUV lineup expanded with the introduction of the all-new Mazda CX-50. The 2024 model year brings an additional change with the elimination of the CX-9 and the launch of the Mazda CX-90 as its replacement. The compact Mazda CX-50 and the midsize Mazda CX-90 command attention on the road while impressing drivers behind the wheel, but they have strong differences that require your attention before picking out a specific vehicle.
Performance
The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is a two-row model with ten trim options. The lower Mazda CX-50 trims receive 187 horsepower from a standard four-cylinder engine. The higher trims pull 256 horsepower from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. All Mazda CX-50 trims are equipped with an automatic six-speed transmission and all-wheel drive. The 2023 Mazda CX-90 has two different V6 engines, which offer 280 horsepower and 340 horsepower. A plug-in hybrid system that generates 323 combined horsepower is also offered, and its all-electric range is 26 miles. The Mazda CX-90 trims all come with all-wheel drive and an automatic eight-speed transmission.
Appearance
These Mazda models are easy to differentiate their individualized exterior characteristics. The Mazda CX-50 has an athletic quality with smoothly defined haunches and arched side contouring. The hood is strongly defined and pairs with a black grille that spans most of the nose. The design also includes small headlights featuring a U-shaped LED bar and sporty air inlets. The 2024 Mazda CX-90, on the other hand, is a larger vehicle with elegant tapering over the roof. The side haunches are slightly molded and pair with linear contouring and a small, chrome-accented air vent. Chrome also dresses up the tall grille and bumper. The gills on the Mazda CX-90’s nose are more extensive, and the elegant headlights are mounted horizontally.
Features
The 2023 Mazda CX-50 and the 2024 Mazda CX-90 are marvelously outfitted with many of the same modern features. Their shared features include adaptive cruise control, a navigation system, a drowsy driver monitor, a wireless charging pad, a head-up display, an auto-dimming rear mirror, a Bose audio system, a surround-view camera, traffic jam assist, a heated steering wheel, and others. The Mazda CX-90 stands apart with its third row of seats and available captain’s chairs in the second row. It also has a head-up display, second-row sunshades, and a few other features.
